So you have taken the advice of your parents and others, completed college, obtained a bachelor’s degree, and if you took out a loan to pay for this expenses, now have over $25,000 in debt.
Great.
Oh, and to make matters worse, the unemployment rate for anyone under the age of 24 currently sits at close to 50%, and it isn’t much better for those under the age of 35, where the rate currently sits at about 25%.

Dancing with the Dragon; A Case for Investing in China in 2012
by Dawn Bennett
In 2011 George R.R. Martin released “A Dance with Dragons,” book number five of the bestselling Game of Thrones novels. In the Year of the Rabbit, this novel outsold any fiction title on its day of release– topping out just shy of three hundred thousand copies. It is now the Year of the Dragon, a year in which we believe, much like the success of Mr. Martins’ novel, the Chinese economy will outperform its peers.

As a broker, your reputation is everything. So what happens when your record becomes tainted by a frivolous customer complaint, even if the firm denies the complaint and the customer drops the matter?
Unless the complaint is expunged, it stays on your public record (i.e., BrokerCheck) forever. Thanks to FINRA Regulatory Notice 10-34 that became effective in August 2010, such complaints are no longer archived after two years. Recent developments have also made this information more accessible to investors. The revised Form ADV Part 2B now requires registered investment advisers to include in their annual disclosure letter to clients all “material legal events”, a requirement that many firms have interpreted to include anything on BrokerCheck. FINRA has also recently announced that it is considering making the full BrokerCheck database available to private vendors interested in highlighting advisors’ complaint and disciplinary histories.

The “turnkey” to opening the door to a successful client-advisor relationship is communication. Social and economic trends are gradually putting more women in the driver’s seat and as a financial advisor you will need to develop successful approaches to serve them. Women-owned firms have an economic impact of $3 trillion, according to the National Women’s Business Council. Women are earning more than their husbands. More than 70 percent of married women fire their financial advisor within a year of their husband’s death, according to “Women Are Not A ‘Niche’ Market. They Are A Significant Business Opportunity.” Statistically, women outlive men. There’s no newsflash in anything I stated regarding women social and economic trends. By now, you should be aware that women take a more holistic approach to their finances. As an advisor you are aware of these trends: increasing salaries, rise in business ownership, making their own financial decisions.
